In his subsequent CSP work in the 1980s, Hoare continued the move away from programming languages and made CSP more general (keeping the acronym but ceasing to expand it since it turned about to be about much more than just sequential processes and their communication). CSP became one of a number of “calculi” – the other most famous one being Milner’s CCS, Calculus of Communicating Systems – providing algebraic frameworks to describe general computations. The new CSP was described in a book by Hoare [22] although a more up-to-date and extensive description can be found in Bill Roscoe’s own book [23].
